Far be it from me to turn this site into some sort of entertainment gossip-type rag, but I couldn’t help but note this morning that not one but BOTH original “Dukes” have recently been in trouble with the law.
The Wrap ran the stories concurrently this morning for easy reference.
Let’s start with “Bo Duke” John Schneider, who is is apparently headed to jail for unpaid alimony payments to his ex Elvira Castle. Schneider found a sympathetic ear in Fox News, to whom he called into with his side of the story:
“It’s common sense versus entitlement. I’ve worked seven days a week, 80 hours a week, at least since 1978. I have, as every working person has, a mountain of debt that was attached to my dream. And there’s a group now that somehow feels they’re entitled to life or even luxury without work and the judicial system apparently agrees with that.”
Schneider had a March deadline to pay $100,000 in back alimony to Castle. He faces three days in jail, which he said he will spend writing songs and working on his book.
Now, “Luke Duke” Tom Wopat’s case seems a bit more serious (not making light of unpaid alimony, but just hear me out). Wopat had been arrested in August of last year for indecent assault and battery and cocaine possession; now additional charges of assault and battery have been added, for allegedly “annoying and attacking” a teenage girl.
Specifically, Wopat is accused of swatting this girl on the posterior with a rehearsal script and telling her she had a “nice butt.”
And so there you have it, Folks: The Duke Boys, 2018. And not a “Boss Hogg” in sight (well…nah, I’m not going to go there this early in the morning).
