“The Dark Knight” Is Reddit’s #1 Film

The top 1000 films per Reddit has been compiled from this thread, and the 2008 Batman film The Dark Knight has the top spot.

The Shawshank Redemption narrowly comes in at #2, followed by The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring, The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King, The Empire Strikes Back, The Prestige, Whiplash, Inception, Jurassic Park, and Pulp Fiction.

Scrolling though the rest of the list…there aren’t a lot of big surprises. It’s a mix of critically-acclaimed Oscar-type films like Saving Private Ryan and There Will Be Blood, some well-known “cult” movies like Hot Fuzz and Nightcrawler, and some older classics like Vertigo & It’s A Wonderful Life.

But it’s an interesting snapshot of what types of films people on Reddit are into. And The Dark Knight, featuring Heath Ledger’s haunting performance, is such an iconic film…that sort of “eclipses” its status a “superhero movie.” It’s a movie of an entire generation.

In fact…scrolling through the top 100, I don’t see ANY other superhero film on the list outside of The Incredibles. No Marvel movies, to be sure; they start appearing later in the list. At #108 you get Logan, at #163 you get Guardians Of The Galaxy, and at #219 there’s Iron Man. But for a genre of films that are “supposed” to be targeting that Reddit-type demographic…the enthusiasm doesn’t seem to be there.

And there ya go!
