Late last year, as the seemingly endless roll-out of Hollywood scandals hit the news, I made a morbid prediction: if 2017 was the year of the Revelations, 2018 was going to be the year of the Fallout From The Revelations. And by “fallout,” I meant: bad, bad, bad, bad “Hollywood Babylon”-level shit.
Case in point, the apparent suicide of former Glee star Mark Salling, 35. Salling had been awaiting sentencing on his conviction in December for possession of child pornography involving a prepubescent minor.
Salling has not been the only member of the Glee cast to die young. In 2013, series star Cory Monteith died of a combination of heroin and alcohol in a Vancouver hotel room; he was 31.
What the fuck is going on with these male Glee stars dying like this? And is it any wonder that the creator of that feel-good series, Ryan Murphy, went on to do American Horror Story?
As for Salling, the child pornography charges were pretty damning stuff—thousands of images were found on his computer (he was also accused of sexual battery by a woman, though that was settled out of court). I do have to ask, however, given Hollywood’s shitty shitty shitty shitty inadequately-dealt-with shitty pedophilia problem: did anyone abuse him when he started in the business as a child actor in the 1990s?
And why have so many young actors like Monteith, River Phoenix, Brad Renfro and on and on and on ended up dead from overdoses? Has Ryan Murphy done an American Horror Story on this topic yet?
