We were wondering when the dams would break in Hollywood concerning pedophilia—and now it’s happened.
Star Trek Discovery actor Anthony Rapp has publicly called out two-time Oscar winner Kevin Spacey for making sexual advances towards him when he was only 14 years old.
Rapp told Buzzfeed that the two met in Broadway circles in the mid-1980s, and the boy was eventually invited to a party at Spacey’s Manhattan apartment.
When Rapp wandered away from the party to watch TV in a bedroom, Spacey followed. The older actor, who was 26 at the time, allegedly then picked Rapp up, put him on the bed, and laid on top of him:
“My memory was that I thought, Oh, everybody’s gone. Well, yeah, I should probably go home,” Rapp said. Spacey, he recalled, “sort of stood in the doorway, kind of swaying. My impression when he came in the room was that he was drunk.” Rapp doesn’t remember Spacey saying anything to him. Instead, Rapp said, “He picked me up like a groom picks up the bride over the threshold. But I don’t, like, squirm away initially, because I’m like, ‘What’s going on?’ And then he lays down on top of me.”
“He was trying to seduce me,” Rapp said. “I don’t know if I would have used that language. But I was aware that he was trying to get with me sexually.”
Rapp recalled this all happening — Spacey appearing at the door, coming into the room, picking him up, and putting him on the bed — in one clumsy action, with Spacey landing at a slight angle on top of him. He said Spacey “was, like, pressing into me,” and that he remembers Spacey “tightening his arms.” But while he can’t recall exactly how long Spacey remained on top of him, Rapp said he was able to “squirm” away after a short period.
It is at this point that one should point out that many teenagers as we see them in movies and TV look more “mature” because they are often played by adults. But this is a photo of Rapp at the time of the alleged incident:
And here is another one:
Crystal-clear this was a kid.
Rapp carried this incident inside him for decades, afraid that if he reported it, his young career would be over. But after the Weinstein allegations, he found a new confidence inside himself to finally get this troubling incident out in the open once and for all:
“Part of what allowed the Harvey situation to occur was that there was this witting and unwitting conspiracy of silence,” Rapp said. “The only way these things can continue is if there’s no attention being paid to it, if it’s getting forgotten.”
