Good gravy, what a mess.
Dark Horizons points out that buried within today’s Hollywood Reporter piece on Leonardo DiCaprio possibly playing the Joker are unnamed “sources” who indicate that Ben Affleck is not reprising his role as Batman in the upcoming Matt Reeves movie:
Now, however, Warners wants to branch off with stand-alone movies that are unconnected to that version of the DC world. The new movies will have non-traditional takes on the heroes and villains of DC, and hopefully, attract actors and filmmakers who don’t typically toil in the comic-book movie world. War for the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves is developing a Batman stand-alone that, according to sources, will not star Ben Affleck, who plays the caped crusader in the DC Universe movies (Warners and Affleck have denied he is being replaced).
The other gem there is that the Reeves movie The Batman (I’m assuming that is the one being referred-to here, scheduled after Justice League) is indeed going to be a “standalone,” despite the director’s recent sort of vague denial of such.
Not much more to say here at the moment, other than that things seem to be seriously in flux regarding Warner Bros. & their DC Extended Universe. Will both Affleck and a reportedly unhappy Jared Leto split & with the studio essentially “rebooting”/retooling their approach to this franchise?
Hell, where does that leave Henry Cavill???
