Actor Jason Isaacs, who plays Captain Gabriel Lorca in the upcoming Star Trek: Discovery, recently survived a small Twitter battle with some hardcore Trek fans and…maybe…William Shatner as well?
The inciting incident was a NY Daily News interview with Isaacs in which he was quoted as saying:
“I don’t mean to sound irreverent when I say I don’t care about the die-hard Trek fans. I only ‘don’t care’ about them in the sense that I know they’re all going to watch anyway. I look forward to having the fun of them being outraged, so they can sit up all night and talk about it with each other.”
It was also implied in the article that Isaacs—who once described his character Lorca as more “fucked up” than any previous Star Trek captain—would “throw away the legacy of William Shatner and Patrick Stewart.”
Of course, Isaacs was trolled, and of course…this article got back to The Shat himself, who retweeted it with a “concerned” emoji:
Considering the types of things William Shatner has been saying to/about people on Twitter lately, it seems as if Isaacs got off easy. But just to be sure there was no bad blood between them, the Star Trek: Discovery star tweeted to The Shat that he meant no disrespect:
He then went on to further antagonize the Trek fans:
Maybe keep Twitter out of the hands of all hot-headed Star Trek Captains. And, you know, the President of the United States.
