One of my fave all-time movies is Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds—and so I was extremely excited to find out that the BBC is planning to do a TV revival of it.
To be precise: David Heyman, producer of the “Harry Potter” film series, is working on a adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s 1952 novella The Birds…not quite the same thing. The du Maurier version is far more dark and dystopian…oh wow, look, which is perfect for today’s climate!
And honestly…director Hitchcock “shit the bed” as far as The Birds is concerned, for the way he treated Tippi Hedren—Tippi Hedren, without whom there would be no enduring Birds movie or iconography. So: good. The BBC might want to see if Tippi is available.
