I mean, why not a Masters Of The Universe movie, at this point? In a world where there are apparently 14 stories for future “Transformers” movies written…a world where even a movie based on the game “Battleship” has been made within the last 5 years…what possible excuse is there NOT to have a He-Man movie in the works?
Anyway: Sony’s just announced they’re making a new Masters Of The Universe movie, due December 18th, 2019.
Writing the project will be David S. Goyer, he of Blade, the Nolan “Batman” trilogy, and Man Of Steel…so I’m imagining this film might be a bit darker and grittier than MOTU’s last cinematic incarnation from 1987 (though a number of people swear by Frank Langella’s performance as Skeletor in that movie).
Superstar director McG was in talks to direct the film last year, but apparently he’s no longer on board.
I would imagine that with MOTU owner Mattel taking such a recent beating at the hands of rival toy company Hasbro (owners of Transformers, G.I. Joe, and etc.), they must be pretty desperate at this point to get movies off the ground for their properties. (Amy Schumer recently dropped out of a proposed movie based on Mattel’s Barbie)
So what can we expect from a “modern” Masters Of The Universe movie? Who would star in it? And will there be Orko? The answers to these questions, I would imagine, are soon to be revealed.
