The long-awaited sequel to the 2013 animated film Frozen has just gotten its official release date, and so has Jon Favreau’s live-action remake of The Lion King. Along with the recent dates set for Star Wars: Episode IX and the 5th Indiana Jones movie, it’s a busy PR time for Disney.
First Frozen 2, set for Nov. 27, 2019. Directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee are back on board, and it’s assumed but not confirmed) that most of the major voice actors from the original (Kristen Bell, Josh Gad, Idina Menzel) will be returning as well.
Then there’s The Lion King, with director Favreau tweeting out its release date: July 19, 2019. Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner are already set to play Timon and Pumbaa, joining Donald Glover as Simba and James Earl Jones reprising his role as Mufasa.
Lastly, a number of release dates for other major Disney films were updated, most notably Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2, moving back several months to November 21 2018, and Gigantic, an animated version of Jack and the Beanstalk, pushed back quite a bit (two years) to Nov. 25, 2020.
